Maryland Psychological Association for Graduate Students

Annapolis Watch

February 13, 2008, five MPAGS members attended MPA’s annual Annapolis Watch, representing psychology graduate programs at UMBC, Loyola College in Maryland, Walden University, Capella University, and Argosy University.  Each graduate student had the opportunity to attend legislative meetings with MPA members, including current MPA President, Grady Dale, Jr., and former MPA presidents, Paul Clavelle and Jim Dasinger, and speak one-on-one with his/her state representatives.

This year’s legislative topics included bills addressing:

  • evidence-based practice for delinquent youth
  • child custody determination
  • student bullying
  • licensing laws for LCPCs
  • access to care
  • various aspects of military psychology

 Other Annapolis Watch activities included:

  • a legislative breakfast with MPA’s legal counsel, Richard Bloch, and Delegate Peter Hammen (district 46)
  • an ethics workshop regarding legal liability and family law presented by Ferrier Stillman, Esq.
  • a legislative reception attended by MPA members and legislators

MPAGS will be participating in this event in February 2009 as well. All graduate students are welcome!  For updates and more information contact Linda Herbert at jones5@umbc.edu.
