Bills have been introduced in the Maryland General Assembly in each of the past four years that would have required insurance companies to provide a certain level of service for children with autism spectrum disorders. The bills have all been unsuccessful. In response to a request from one of the legislation's sponsors, MPA has assembled a study group to review past legislation and make recommendations based on current research and practice.
Along with several other states, Maryland is considering licensing certain pscyhologists with the appropriate extra training to prescribed psychiatric medications. This committee advises the MPA on the formation of position statements and suggested guidelines for allowing prescription privileges.
