The Laboratory for the Treatment of Suicide-Related Ideation and Behavior at Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, Department of Medical and Clinical Psychology in Bethesda, Maryland is accepting applications from psychologists and associated health professionals for a full-time Postdoctoral Fellowship. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to MPS.


The Postdoctoral Fellow will spend approximately 70% of time in research activities and 30% in delivery of clinical care to research participants. Primary research activities will include data analysis and interpretation, preparation of scientific reports and manuscripts, as well as assistance with grant writing. Clinical activities will take place at several inpatient psychiatric settings and will involve the administration of psychological assessment batteries and the delivery of a targeted cognitive behavioral treatment protocol (Post Admission Cognitive Therapy [PACT]) for the prevention of suicide. The Postdoctoral Fellow will receive training and supervision in the areas of military mental health, psychotherapy research, clinical trials methodology, suicide risk assessment and management, and cognitive behavior therapy for the prevention of suicide. Examples of other training opportunities include research seminars, coursework in military psychology, and lectures provided through the Center for Deployment Psychology.

Requirements: Applicants must have a doctorate in Clinical Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or related field. Evidence of a strong research background as reflected by scholarly presentations and/or publications as well as work experience is highly desired. Travel to study implementation sites – the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (Bethesda, Maryland), the Ft. Belvoir Community Hospital (Ft. Belvoir, Virginia), and the Washington DC VA Medical Center – is expected. Evening and/or weekend coverage may be necessary, depending on recruitment patterns at each site.

Clinical Psychologist I - Youth and Family Team

An Overview

The City of Alexandria is looking for a Clinical Psychologist who will provide evaluative and treatment services to children and youth who have emotional, behavioral and/or co-occurring challenges, and to their families. If you have a Doctoral Degree and a Clinical Psychologist license, the City of Alexandria would love to hear from you.  Our Clinical Psychologist provides individual and family therapy to children, adolescents and their families. When necessary, they provide crisis intervention. They assess competency and mental status at the time of the evaluations. They are responsible for coordinating client care with the Unit case manager.

Our Clinical Psychologist supervises psychology interns and or externs. They participate in training and organizational activities involved in the internship/externship program. They also provide consultation to other staff as needed. They must provide biweekly consultation to supervisory and line staff at Shelter Care, a short term residential facility. They are responsible for conferring with other professionals about specific clients.

Our Clinical Psychologist provides psychological evaluations for a variety of purposes, including diagnostic clarifications, parental fitness and sexual abuse assessments. They consult teachers, guidance counselors and representatives from other agencies on behalf of child clients. They participate in multi-disciplinary treatment planning meetings. They must complete all necessary training to retain license.

Our Clinical Psychologist follows agency procedures as they relate to productivity expectations and client payment issues. They must maintain needed paperwork requirements. They advocate on behalf of the client with various components of the support system. When necessary, they testify in court as expert witness.

Duties: Meet with students for mental health assessment and counseling and crisis counseling as needed.

Consult with parents of students. Refer to and consult with other mental health professionals weekly and as needed. Maintain records of care. Meet weekly with the assistant dean for consultation. Be available, on-call, for after hour emergencies and during the summer and coordinate on-call schedule with other counseling center staff. Understand as thoroughly as possible the academic and social aspects of student life at the college. Continue professional education, maintain license and insurance

As appropriate: attend meeting or consultations with college administrators, resident assistants, senior residents, and health services staff. Participate in and help design orientation programs for freshmen and resident assistants. Attend RA meetings during the year to address ongoing wellness and mental health issues. Design and implement group counseling and wellness programs as they serve the needs of the college community.

 

Qualifications: Possession of an appropriate degree (master’s or doctorate), a professional license to practice mental health counseling from the state of Maryland, at least three years of counseling experience, and professional liability insurance. Ability to understand the St. John’s College program and successfully communicate with students, faculty, and staff.

Compensation: Grade 13, Salary $57,244.26, excellent benefit package.

Day 1 will introduce the concept of neurodiversity, and discuss how brain differences – primarily autism spectrum conditions – shape the ways in which neurodiverse people process information, think about themselves and others, manage their emotions, and navigate romantic and professional relationships. On day 2, students will learn about skills that should be developed to be more prepared for the transition to higher education.

This workshop is for post-doctoral psychologists and may also be useful for anyone who works with neurodiverse people such as K-12 and higher education professionals, mental health professionals, and human resources professionals.
