This year we have a hard hitting “line-up” of workshops and presenters for the Convention that we believe reflect healthy practice-building foundations as well as fundamental treatment approaches that will reinforce sound interactions between therapists and their patients. We are offering a broad array of workshops covering a variety of topics. These include the treatment approaches to Asperger’s Disorder, and Anger Management in Pre-Adolescents and Adolescents. Other workshops will shed light on specific treatment applications such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Treatment Approaches for Low Self-Esteem. And that’s not all. There will also be workshops that will explore theoretical teachings in Psychology such as The Life and Work of Dr. Viktor Frankl; The Magic of Virginia Satir; and the Research of Dr. Daniel Segal. There will also be a presentation on diversity: Psychology of the Immigrant Experience through the Eyes of an Immigrant Psychologist. If this isn’t enough, the Convention will include multiple workshops that will satisfy CE hours for Ethics. In addition, we are particularly pleased to invite the Board of Examiners for a special panel presentation. Members of the Board will update MPA members on current issues facing the Board, changes in regulations, and other important information that will affect psychologists.
The Convention is a multi-purpose affair! First and foremost, it is a venue for updating our professional knowledge and obtaining CE credits. In addition to offering 7 CE credits in one day, the Convention offers the opportunity to get reacquainted with old friends and to make new ones, to share our professional experiences with each other, and to enjoy being “away from the office”! We should also add that without our membership, the Maryland Psychological Association and the Convention would not exist, and as always there will be an emphasis on bringing in new members and energizing the current membership to actively participate in our organization. We know from our own experiences that such participation can be one of the most gratifying activities in one’s career.
