While infertility effects about 20% of heterosexual couples, many of whom turn to assisted reproductive technology (ART) to help create their family, same-sex couples use ART as well. Psychologists who work with all couples will benefit from knowledge in this area. In addition, knowledge of the different psychological reactions presented by men and women is essential to better help couples. This workshop provides and overview of the issues inherent when an infertility diagnosis, whether it be male factor, female factor or combined male and female, is present. It describes how psychologists collaborate with medical and legal teams to improve the quality of care those who use ART receive, with a focus on the couple component.
