Welcome to marylandpsychology.org, the website of the Maryland Psychological Association (“MPA,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). These Terms and Conditions describe how you can use the Site. By using the Site, you're agreeing to them — if something here doesn't work for you, please reach out before continuing to use the Site.


1. Who We Are

Maryland Psychological Association is a professional association serving licensed psychologists and other professionals in the field of psychology in Maryland. Nothing on the Site constitutes psychological, medical, legal, or other professional advice, and use of the Site does not create a professional or therapeutic relationship between MPA and any user.


2. Accounts

The Site is intended for psychologists, other professionals, students, and members of the public interested in MPA's work. If you create an account (for example, as a member, prospective member, or event registrant), please:

  • Give us accurate, up-to-date information;
  • Keep your login details to yourself; and
  • Let us know if you think someone else has accessed your account.

We may suspend or close an account that's used in a way that violates these Terms or our membership policies.


3. Membership, Events, and Continuing Education

Certain features of the Site — such as membership applications, event and convention registration, and continuing education (CE) offerings — are subject to additional policies (for example, membership eligibility criteria, cancellation and refund policies for events, and CE completion requirements). Those policies are incorporated into these Terms by reference and are available on the relevant pages of the Site or upon request.


4. Acceptable Use

We ask that you don't:

  • Break the law or infringe someone else's rights while using the Site;
  • Upload viruses, malicious code, or unlawful or defamatory material;
  • Try to access parts of the Site, other accounts, or systems you're not authorized to access;
  • Scrape or collect information about other members without their consent;
  • Use the Site to send spam or unsolicited advertising; or
  • Disrupt how the Site works for others.


5. Intellectual Property

All content on the Site — including text, graphics, logos, the MPA name and marks, publications, and CE materials — is owned by or licensed to MPA and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. You may view and download content for your personal, non-commercial use only. You may not reproduce, distribute, modify, or create derivative works from Site content without our prior written permission, except as permitted by law.


6. User-Submitted Content

If the Site allows you to submit content (such as a member directory profile, forum post, testimonial, or proposal submission), you grant MPA a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to use, display, and reproduce that content in connection with operating and promoting the Site and MPA's activities. You represent that you have the right to submit such content and that it does not violate any law or third-party right.


7. Third-Party Links and Services

The Site may contain links to third-party websites, sponsors, exhibitors, or service providers (including event registration platforms, payment processors, and association management systems). We do not control and are not responsible for the content, privacy practices, or terms of those third-party sites. Your use of third-party sites and services is at your own risk and subject to their own terms.


8. Disclaimers

We provide the Site "as is," without warranties of any kind. While we do our best to keep information accurate and the Site running smoothly, we can't guarantee the Site will always be available, secure, or error-free, or that every piece of content — including CE materials and anything submitted by third parties — is complete or accurate.


9. Limitation of Liability

To the extent allowed by law, MPA and its officers, directors, employees, and agents won't be liable for indirect or consequential damages (like lost data or lost revenue) arising from your use of the Site. Our total liability to you for any claim will not exceed the amount you paid to MPA in the twelve months before the claim, if any.


10. Indemnification

If your use of the Site or violation of these Terms leads to a claim against MPA, you agree to cover the reasonable costs (including attorneys' fees) that result.


11. Privacy

Your use of the Site is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes how we collect, use, and protect your personal information. Please review the Privacy Policy carefully.


12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The "Effective Date" above indicates when these Terms were last revised. Your continued use of the Site after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.


13. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Maryland, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute arising under these Terms shall be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Maryland, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of such courts.


14. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Site at any time, with or without notice, for conduct that we believe violates these Terms or is otherwise harmful to MPA, other users, or third parties.
