Fundamentals of Culturally Competent Practice

This course presents a foundation of cultural competence for clinicians in clinical practice. Theories and cultural guidelines for awareness and building competence are provided. Multiple case examples are also presented for application of these skills.

This webcast is designed to help you:

  1. Summarize current models of cultural competence and theory in practice;
  2. Provide key questions and skills for understanding cultural relevance to treatment;
  3. Observe examples of cultural challenges among clients and clinicians in the therapeutic relationship;
  4. Apply skills in cultural competence in case vignette examples.

 

Presenter Dr. Shreya Hessler is a licensed psychologist in Maryland and the Director of MINDset Center, a comprehensive center for anxiety, behavioral, and learning challenges. She has been in private practice since 2005. Dr. Hessler has also served on faculty at Towson and Loyola Universities, teaching courses on cultural psychology and clinical psychology at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. She has given several workshops on cultural competency in practice and currently serves as the Junior Representative At Large for the Maryland Psychological Association.

Requirements for completion: This is considered a home-study course for reporting purposes, and in order to get CE credit you must pass the post-test (75%) and submit a completed evaluation. You will receive your CE certificate via email within 7-10 business days after course completion.
